ACCESS
TO WORK
"Access to Work Scheme" assists people with disabilities to get into work. It applies to any job, part time or full time, permanent or temporary. Your disability or health problem should be one which affects the kind of work you can do and be likely to last for twelve months or longer.
For example Access to Work can pay for, or towards:
- a communicator if you are deaf or are hard of hearing (you can have a communicator at a job interview, as well as in work);
- a part-time reader, or assistant at work if you are blind or have a visual impairment;
- a support worker if you need practical help, either at work or getting to work
- equipment (or alterations to existing equipment) to suit your particular needs
alterations to premises or a working environment;
- adaptations to a car, or help towards taxi fares or other transport costs if you cannot use public transport to get to work.

DISABLEMENT
EMPLOYMENT ADVISERS (DEA)
The DEA at your local Jobcentre Plus office can advise on the following:
- how best to find the most suitable job, training
or the Job Introduction Scheme, which offers a chance
to try out a job for an introductory period or, for
those who need a longer period of support,
Workstep.
- individual, practical help using Access to Work
and work preparation including job trials with an
employer and the chance to try out equipment
- training to update and gain new skills - like
local Work Based Learning, residential training
colleges, or a placement to try out an employment
opportunity on Work Preparation.
HALESWORTH
RECYCLING PROJECT

JOBCENTRE PLUS
Staff at the Jobcentre Plus office are trained to help people with disabilities back to work. There is specialist help from Disability Employment Advisers who can assist with assessing your abilities and help find suitable work.

SHAW
TRUST
Shaw Trust offer:
- Job Broker Services (New Deal for Disabled People) is available for people who are in receipt of Benefits relating to Incapacity and are unemployed and provides information and advice to assist in accessing employment. - Workstep is a programme providing up to 2 years of support to help people who, because of a work limiting disability, may find it difficult to find or keep a job. Contact Emma Scrivener 01502 513928
- Progress to Work/LinkUp a new initiative for those individuals recovering from substance/alcohol misuse or ex-offenders or homeless people. The aim is to provide specialist help, support and guidance; to explore options for entering mainstream /specialist programmes, further education or employment. Contact Sarah Speak 01502 527602
- The Shaw Trust Mental Health Employment Project is funded by Suffolk Social Care Services to provide Vocational services to clients of Suffolk Community Mental Health Teams. They assess vocational needs of clients and identify work, training and educational resources suitable for client needs and work 1:1 with clients to help them develop a realistic Action Plan.
