 ADAPTATIONS AND ALTERATIONS

If you need to adapt your home, you can apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant. This grant is means-tested which means your income and savings are taken into account when calculating the amount of money that you will get.  For details contact your District or Borough Council.

CENTRES FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING
These are purpose built centres with a wide range of equipment for people to try out. They exist to help access the needs of people with disabilities in a home-like setting. The service is free, but an appointment is necessary.

DOMESTIC & PERSONAL CARE
Services are available to enable people to stay in their homes by helping with tasks such as washing, dressing, food preparation, housework etc. These can be provided through Adult and Community Services. Depending on your circumstances there may be a charge. Services can be purchased directly from independent providers. Contact Adult and Community Services or your local Disability Advice Service.

EQUIPMENT
There is a large range of equipment available to help you be as independent as possible. Adult and Community Services staff, including Occupational Therapists and Rehabilitation Officers for visually impaired people, are available for advice. Items may be loaned to you by Adult and Community Services following an assessment.
Contact Customer First on 0808 800 4005 for further details. Items can also be purchased from specialist suppliers. For details contact your local Disability Advice Service. The British Red Cross Society can supply some equipment for daily living including short term loan of wheelchairs, bath seats, bed blocks etc.

MEALS SERVICE
If you have difficulty preparing your own food, you may be entitled to meals from Social Care Services. For information contact Adult and Community Services.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
Occupational Therapists will be able to advise you on ways in which day to day living may be improved. For further details contact Contact Customer First on 0808 800 4005.

REMAP
